The 2026 French Open set a new attendance record
The 2026 French Open made history with record attendance. More than 727,000 fans attended this year’s tournament in Paris. As a result, the event surpassed the previous record set the year before. In 2025, 687,249 spectators attended the French Open matches, which at the time was the highest figure in the tournament’s history.
One of the main factors driving the surge in interest was the successful ticket sales for Opening Week—the week of qualifying matches leading up to the main draw. While qualifying matches used to attract mainly the most devoted tennis fans, they have now become an important part of the Roland Garros program. In 2026, 138,000 spectators attended the qualifying matches.
The organizers’ more affordable pricing policy also contributed to Opening Week’s popularity. Ticket prices for qualifying matches started at 29 euros.
“Over 727,000 people visited the stadium—that’s a new record for us. The players also gave very positive feedback,” said tournament director Amélie Mauresmo.
Another reason for the record-breaking numbers was the large-scale modernization of the Roland Garros tennis complex, which has been underway since the early 2020s. The renovation and expansion of the infrastructure allowed for an increase in arena capacity and made the tournament experience more comfortable for fans.
Roland Garros 2026 was also special for Ukrainian tennis. For the first time in history, Marta Kostyuk reached the semifinals of the Paris Grand Slam. In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian defeated her compatriot Elina Svitolina.
The singles champions of the tournament were Germany’s Alexander Zverev and “neutral” player Mirra Andreeva.
