Russian cyclist disqualified for cocaine use
Russian cyclist Mamir Stash has been suspended from competition after traces of cocaine were found in his doping sample. The decision was made by the disciplinary committee of the anti-doping agency. The suspension period is three months.
Another doping scandal has erupted in Russian cycling, once again casting doubt on the integrity of athletes’ results, as one of the country’s most decorated riders, Mamir Stash, has been officially suspended from competition following a positive test for a banned substance.
Reportedly, traces of cocaine were found in his samples, after which the Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency decided to suspend the athlete for three months, effectively putting his professional career on hold. Mamir Stash himself is a 33-year-old cyclist who won a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships and competed for the well-known Russian team “Rusvelo,” making this story even more significant for the sports community.
In sports circles, such cases always cause a stir, as they concern not only the athlete’s personal responsibility but also the reputation of entire teams and federations that represent the country on the international stage. At the same time, the media is also recalling other stories of Russian amateur athletes, notably soccer player Alexander Tokarev, who played for a number of clubs in the Volgograd region, though his athletic career never extended beyond regional teams and amateur leagues.
Tokarev began his career back in 2006 with Zhirnov’s “Naftovik,” later playing for several local clubs, with his last team being “Exclusive,” and it is known that he is survived by his family—his wife and two sons. This was reported by RUSADA.
