The U.S. has explained the entry ban on a referee from Somalia
The U.S. government has explained the reasons for denying entry to Somali soccer referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was scheduled to officiate at the 2026 World Cup. The White House reported that the decision was made due to identified ties to individuals suspected of involvement with terrorist organizations.
"During an additional review conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), adverse information was discovered, including ties to individuals suspected of belonging to terrorist organizations, which precluded the traveler’s admission to the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
This individual was denied entry and provided with immigration forms citing the section of the law applicable for expedited removal under Section 8235 of the INA. "The Trump administration will not allow any security threat to enter our country—period."
This was reported by The Athletic.
