Svitolina defeated the Russian player and advanced to the second round of the tournament in Berlin

Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player, Elina Svitolina, got off to a strong start at the WTA 500 grass-court tournament in Berlin, confidently defeating Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya.

The Ukrainian dominated from the very first points and won the opening set 6-1, breaking her opponent’s serve twice. In the second set, Svitolina continued to control the match and took a 4-1 lead.

With the score at that point, Kalinskaya withdrew from the match due to feeling unwell. The match lasted only 43 minutes in total.

In the second round of the tournament, Svitolina will face German tennis player Eva Lys, who is of Ukrainian descent and is currently ranked 80th in the world.
