Thai soccer player killed by a lightning strike during a match
A tragic incident occurred during a soccer match in southern Thailand. Lightning struck a group of players, killing 24-year-old soccer player Sofwan Ave. Nine other people were injured and taken to the hospital.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, August 4, during the 2026 Golok FA Cup regional tournament. The competition included not only Thai but also Malaysian soccer players. Sofwan Awe, 24, died as a result of the lightning strike.
His teammates immediately attempted to administer first aid to him right on the field. However, they were unable to save him. Eight other Thai citizens were hospitalized after being struck by lightning. One Malaysian citizen was also injured. The incident occurred during a game in the southern part of the country. The Bangkok Post reported on the tragedy.
