The Blaze defeated Hampshire in the final of the women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup in Southampton to claim their third domestic trophy of the season. Emma Jones scored the winning runs from the final ball of the match, finishing unbeaten on 34 from 25 balls, Sky Sports News reports.
The Blaze had previously won the Vitality Blast and the Vitality T20 County Cup. In the final, the team needed 17 runs from the last two overs and another two before the final ball. Jones hit a reverse pull and a straight drive for boundaries, then swept the final delivery to the boundary.
Hampshire innings
The Blaze won the toss and fielded first. In the opening five overs, Grace Ballinger and Charley Phillips allowed the opponents to score only 11 runs. Maia Bouchier and Ella McCaughan later put together an opening partnership of 84 runs.
McCaughan was Hampshire’s top scorer with 78 runs. Together with Freya Kemp, she added 67 runs in the middle of the innings, after which Hampshire were 166 for two in the 32nd over.

Lucy Higham took four wickets for 49 runs, including the dismissals of Kemp and Naomi Dattani. Phillips took the wickets of Rhianna Southby, Abi Norgrove and Amanda-Jade Wellington in three consecutive overs. Hampshire finished their innings on 251 runs.
The Blaze chase
In reply, Sarah Bryce and Tammy Beaumont gave The Blaze an opening partnership of 95 runs. Wellington took the wickets of Sarah Bryce and Kathryn Bryce in one over. Beaumont continued the chase alongside Georgia Elwiss, with both players scoring half-centuries.
After a series of wickets, The Blaze still needed 30 runs. Jones helped the team reduce the deficit in the closing overs and secured victory with a boundary from the final ball of the match.
