Trump called on FIFA to hold the World Cup in the U.S. again

After the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, U.S. President Donald Trump called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to once again grant the United States the right to host the World Cup as soon as possible. 

The American leader made his statement on Fox Sports ahead of the final match between Spain and Argentina, noting the tournament’s unprecedented success. During the awards ceremony at MetLife Stadium, Trump, together with the FIFA president, presented gold medals and the trophy to the winners—the Spanish national team.

The first-ever World Cup featuring 48 national teams, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, set an attendance record, drawing 6.6 million spectators. Despite Donald Trump’s desire to host the tournament again in the near future, FIFA regulations and the schedule of already-designated hosts (Spain, Portugal, and Morocco in 2030, and in 2034 in Saudi Arabia) make this impossible. For now, the earliest realistic date for a new U.S. bid remains 2038.

As a reminder, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) have classified the World Cup semifinal match between England and Argentina as a high-risk game.
