Counterfeit soccer jerseys worth millions of dollars were seized in Canada

In Canada, Toronto police conducted an operation during which they seized a record shipment of counterfeit soccer jerseys and sports merchandise. According to investigators, the total value of the confiscated goods exceeds $2.5 million, and the case is already considered one of the largest counterfeiting cases in the country.

Law enforcement officers arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal distribution of counterfeit goods.

The operation took place at a warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario. There, police discovered over 16,000 counterfeit items—jerseys and flags bearing the logos of well-known sports brands and soccer organizations.

Among the counterfeits were items bearing the FIFA, Nike, Adidas, and Puma logos. According to police, the products looked like the originals but did not meet any official standards and lacked a license for sale.

Two suspects were detained during the operation. They have already been charged with involvement in the distribution of counterfeit goods. Investigators are mapping out the full supply and sales network for the counterfeits and are also examining potential distribution channels outside of Canada.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 and will be held for the first time in three countries—the United States, Canada, and Mexico. That is why, according to experts, demand for soccer merchandise is already surging, and with it, the counterfeit markets are becoming more active.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that combating counterfeits during major sporting events is becoming a top priority, as such schemes can cause significant losses to official brands and sports organizations. This is reported by Reuters.
