The U.S. has launched an investigation into FIFA's manipulation of prices for the 2026 World Cup

The attorneys general of New York and New Jersey have launched an investigation into the sale of tickets for the 2026 World Cup matches. Officials are examining whether FIFA violated fans’ rights due to a sharp rise in ticket prices and changes to seating arrangements in stadiums.

This was reported by the Associated Press.

According to the investigation, the organization received official subpoenas demanding information on the use of a “dynamic pricing” system, which caused ticket prices for certain matches to rise significantly.

Prosecutors are also looking into numerous complaints from fans who claim that after purchasing tickets, their seats in the stadiums were changed, and the actual seating turned out to be significantly worse and farther from the field.

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated:

“New Yorkers have waited years for the World Cup to come to their backyard, and they deserve a fair chance to get affordable tickets.”

“No one should be manipulated into paying exorbitant prices for seats, and fans should be confident that the tickets they buy are the ones they’ll receive,” she emphasized.

For her part, New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport accused FIFA of creating “a maze of confusion, artificial scarcity, and exorbitant prices.”

According to her, hosting the World Cup is a great honor for the state, but it “is not an invitation to exploit our residents and visitors.”

FIFA is currently refraining from commenting on the investigation.

It is known that the 2026 World Cup final is planned to be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

As a reminder, FIFA will organize a musical show for the first time during halftime of the 2026 World Cup final. The decision will be implemented during the match, which will take place on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the organization reported.

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is preparing changes to the rules regarding yellow card suspensions for the 2026 World Cup.
