Kostyuk fell just short of the Roland Garros final and explained her loss

Marta Kostyuk failed to reach the Roland Garros final after losing to Mirry Andreeva in two sets, and after the match she candidly explained what had prevented her from playing her best. Despite the loss, the Ukrainian achieved her best-ever result at a Grand Slam tournament and will climb significantly in the WTA rankings.

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk fell just short of a historic Roland Garros final, losing to Mirry Andreeva in the semifinals, and after the match calmly explained what exactly derailed her game at the most crucial moment of the tournament.

According to Kostyuk, the battle on the court was even in many games, but the decisive factor was an inconsistent serve and a sense of internal haste that prevented her from maintaining the necessary rhythm, despite her efforts to play as simply as possible and focus solely on each individual point. “Yes, I got back into the match, but my serve wasn’t working properly today. I think I was rushing a lot. There was a bit more chaos in my game than usual. I was just trying to play point by point,” said the Ukrainian, emphasizing that she didn’t get distracted by the score and tried to keep up the pace until the very last ball.

Despite the loss, this tournament was a real breakthrough for Kostyuk, as she reached the semifinals of a major for the first time in her career and will now rise significantly in the WTA world rankings, where, according to preliminary data, she will be ranked 12th, which only confirms her steady progress at the top level of tennis.

In the semifinal match, Kostyuk lost to Andreeva with a score of 1-6, 3-6, and at the same time, Daria Snigur also ended her run in the tournament, losing to American Peyton Sterns in the second round, thus ending Ukraine’s run in Paris this year at the semifinal stage. This was reported by BTU.

On Thursday, June 4, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, who defeated Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, will play in the semifinals of Roland Garros 2026. The Ukrainian’s opponent will be Russian Mira Andreeva. The match will determine one of the finalists of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament in Paris.

Svitolina also confidently defeated an American player and advanced to the round of 16 at Indian Wells.

Sobolenko lost in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.
