Ukraine scored a historic victory in the Women's Volleyball Nations League
The Ukrainian women's national volleyball team won a Nations League match for the first time in history. In the second-round match of their debut tournament, the Ukrainian women defeated the German team 3-2 in a tense five-set battle. This success brought the team its first victory and first points in the prestigious international competition.
The first and second sets were a real spectacle. The “blue-and-yellows” won the first set confidently, 25-21. The second set turned into a real nail-biter: after a tied score of 22-22, the score went up to 26-26, 28-28, and only at 30-28 did Ukraine clinch the set after two errors by their opponents.
Then the Germans seized the initiative—they took the third and fourth sets confidently: 25–14 and 25–19 in their favor. The match went to a tiebreaker.
The Deciding Set
The teams were neck and neck for almost the entire tiebreaker—1:1, 3:3, 6:6, 9:9. The key stretch came after the score was 9-9: a block by Yulia Dymar and an attack by Oleksandra Milenko allowed Ukraine to pull ahead by two points for the first time—11-9. From there, the “blue-and-yellows” didn’t let the victory slip away. Daria Shargorodska sealed the match with a block on the final point – 15:13.
Alexandra Milenko was the top scorer with 21 points. Viktoria Danchak added 17 points.
