Russian track and field athletes missed out on the 2026 Youth Olympics
Russian track and field athletes have been barred from competing in the Youth Olympic Games, which are being held this fall in Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
This was announced by Boris Yaryshevsky, executive director of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), who noted that no quotas had been allocated for athletes from Russia.
This comes amid reports that the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has temporarily lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). The IOC made this decision after the ROC expelled regional sports organizations from the occupied territories of Ukraine from its membership and pledged not to conduct activities there. Currently, the issue of symbols and the participation of Russian athletes in future competitions remains under the IOC’s oversight.

Estonia, together with its partner countries, plans to appeal to the European Commission to review funding for sports organizations that support the return of Russia and Belarus to international competitions.
Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich called the International Olympic Committee’s decision to temporarily lift the ban on the Russian Olympic Committee’s activities “shameful.” The athlete stated that the IOC is ignoring the facts regarding the involvement of Russian sports organizations in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
