In the UK, Manchester City beat Birmingham thanks to Shaw's brace

In Manchester, United Kingdom, Manchester City's women's team began the defence of its English Super League title with a 3-1 win over tournament newcomers Birmingham City. Khadija Shaw scored a second-half brace, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.

Goals after the break

In the first half, Birmingham's defence contained the attacks of the reigning champions. Mary Fowler opened the scoring in the 49th minute, taking advantage of a poor clearance and shooting into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later, Shaw doubled Manchester City's lead. She headed in Kerstin Casparij's corner delivery.

Shaw's second goal
