UEFA has extended the suspension of Russian teams for another season
The UEFA Executive Committee has officially amended the list of participants for the 2026/27 European club competition season to bring it into line with the current suspension of Russian national teams and clubs. The organization has adjusted the list of teams, completely removing Russian representatives from UEFA competitions.
In addition to European club tournaments, Russian teams will also miss the Nations League, futsal championships, the Regions’ Cup, and other competitions under the organization’s auspices.
UEFA suspended Russia from international football back in 2022 following the start of the full-scale invasion, and since then, representatives of the aggressor country have not participated in European tournaments. As for Belarus, UEFA imposed only limited sanctions, which prohibit matches against Ukraine’s national teams in any tournaments under its auspices, effective from 2022.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in all international competitions.
