Ukraine won its first medal at the 2026 European Fencing Championships
Ukraine opened its medal tally at the 2026 European Fencing Championships, where Alina Komashchuk won the team’s first medal by taking bronze in the women’s individual sabre competition.
“Ukraine has won its first medal at the 2026 European Fencing Championships. Alina Komashchuk won bronze in the women’s individual sabre competition,” the ministry confirmed.
The Ukrainian Olympic champion delivered a confident performance in Antony, France, and earned the seventh European Championship medal of her career.
On her way to the podium, she won 4 out of 6 bouts in the group stage; in the round of 32, she defeated Zuzanna Cheslar (Poland) 15–11; in the subsequent rounds, she defeated Despina Georgiadou (Greece) and Sarah Noutchou (France) by the same score, and in the semifinals, she lost to Lucía Martín-Portugués (Spain) 7–15.
The European Fencing Championships will continue until June 21, so the Ukrainian team still has a chance to add to its medal tally.
