A Barcelona youth product has joined Real Madrid for €60 million
Real Madrid has officially signed left back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for €60 million, putting him under contract through 2032. The move is already being called one of the biggest of this summer’s transfer window.
Real Madrid has made another major move in the transfer market and announced the signing of Spanish national team left-back Marc Cucurella, who previously played for London’s Chelsea and has his football roots at Barcelona.
The club reported that the contract runs until June 30, 2032, and the transfer itself is one of the most expensive of the summer, as the total fee amounted to approximately 60 million euros, including bonuses. “Real Madrid FC and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Marc Cucurella, who will be with our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032,” the Madrid club said in an official statement.
Cucurella is a 27-year-old left back for the Spanish national team who came up through the ranks at Barcelona, Real Madrid’s archrival, although he played only one official match for the Catalans’ first team in the Spanish Cup. After his time in the Barcelona system, the player moved through Eibar, Getafe, England’s Brighton, and eventually ended up at Chelsea in 2022, where he established himself as a starter.
According to insiders, the Madrid club paid a fixed fee of 55 million euros, with an additional 5 million euros in bonuses, making this transfer one of the key deals on the market this summer. Cucurella is also a member of the Spanish national team, which kicks off the 2026 World Cup today, and continues to be a key figure in European soccer, despite his club change and new long-term contract in Madrid.
