Winger Daniel Tupou could win a fourth NRL title with the Roosters — ABC News Australia

In Australia, Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou will play in the NRL grand final against the Newcastle Knights on Sunday and, if victorious, could become the first club player since the 1940s to win four premiership titles with the team. According to ABC News Australia, the 35-year-old athlete is already the Roosters' record holder for tries and is only a few matches short of the club record for appearances.

Tupou is the only player to have taken the field in all three of the Roosters' victorious grand finals under coach Trent Robinson. In 2013, in his second season at the top level, he scored a spectacular try in the match against Manly.

Finals performances

In the victorious 2018 final against Melbourne, Tupou opened the scoring with a try and gained the second-highest number of metres among Roosters players. The following year, in the match against Canberra that ended 14–8, he gained a team-high 185 metres from 17 ball carries.

In that match, Tupou also stopped opponents' attacks several times in defence, made a break and delivered the final pass to James Tedesco before his match-winning try.

Experience for debutants

Tupou advises his teammates to remain calm, enjoy the atmosphere of the decisive week and not think too much about the hype surrounding the match. According to him, the team worked throughout the season to earn the right to play in the final, so it must act consistently.

The Roosters also have other players with experience of championship matches: Victor Radley and James Tedesco played in the 2018 and 2019 finals, Nat Butcher and Angus Crichton in the 2019 final, while Spencer Leniu won three titles with Penrith. At the same time, 15 of the 22 players named by the team on Tuesday have not yet played in an NRL grand final.
