The Ukrainian national volleyball team crushed the world champions
The Ukrainian men’s national volleyball team secured a historic victory in the Nations League, confidently defeating the reigning world champions—the Italian team. The match, part of the second week of play, took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and ended in a 3-0 triumph for Ukraine (25-23, 25-19, 25-17).
The Italians put up the strongest resistance in the first set, which was a closely contested battle; however, the Ukrainians’ aggressive serving and Vladislav Shchurov’s clutch plays late in the set secured the victory.
In the next two sets, the blue-and-yellows demonstrated complete dominance, controlling the attack and the block to build a comfortable lead right from the start of each set. The top scorers of the match were Dmytro Yanchuk and Oleg Plotnytskyi, who each contributed 14 points to the team’s total, while Vasyl Tupchii added another 13 points to the overall tally. The Ukrainian national team will play its next match against Canada.
