The WTA has not commented on the Russian player's controversial post featuring the symbol of war

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has declined to publicly comment on a post by Russian tennis player Alina Korneeva. Specifically, the post in question is an Instagram post in which the athlete used a St. George's ribbon—a symbol associated with Russian aggression against Ukraine. The WTA has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Korneeva’s Controversial Act

On May 9, 2026, Korneeva posted an image of Russian military symbolism—the so-called “St. George’s ribbon”—in her Instagram Stories. This ribbon has long been one of the symbols of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The ban on its use is also mentioned in the IOC’s guidelines on neutral athletes.

The WTA’s lack of response

Last week, Glavkom reached out to the WTA for comment regarding the association’s reaction to the Russian player’s controversial post.

However, the WTA never responded to the request.

Association representatives have also not publicly commented on the Russian player’s controversial act.
