In Ghana, national team defender Alexander Djiku will not play in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Gambia due to an injury. A medical examination confirmed that the footballer will not have time to recover for the encounter, MyJoyOnline reports.
Injury in the opening match
The centre-back left the pitch early in Ghana's opening qualifying match against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké due to an injury. That encounter ended in a 0–2 defeat for the Ghanaian team.

Earlier, Djiku said in an interview with 3Sports that the problem had arisen three weeks before the match. He also noted that he wanted to help the national team and would do everything possible to be ready for the next game.
Match in Accra
Ghana will host Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29. This will be the Ghanaian team's second match in qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Djiku's absence will leave the head coach without one of the team's key defenders.
