The Ukrainian national hockey team is now without a coaching staff
The Ukrainian national hockey team has lost the coaching staff that led the team back to the top division of the World Championship for the first time in 20 years.
The Ukrainian Ice Hockey Federation did not renew the contracts of head coach Dmytro Khrystych, his assistant Oleg Shafarenko, and coach Ihor Karpenko. The parties were unable to agree on new financial terms following a successful season.
A new head coach for the national team is expected to be appointed shortly. He will form his own coaching staff and prepare the team for competition in the elite division.
Under the leadership of Khrystych, Shafarenko, and Karpenko, the Ukrainian national team moved up two divisions in three years—first to Division IA, and later to the elite division, where it returned for the first time in two decades.
