Zhytomyr Polissya advanced to the round of 16 of the Ukrainian Cup
Zhytomyr’s “Polissya” defeated “Kudrivka” 2–0 in the 1/16 finals of the Ukrainian Cup. The favorite in this matchup will continue its quest for the trophy in the next round of the tournament.
Ruslan Rotan’s team quickly took control of the ball. However, the first real chance didn’t come until the 17th minute—Nazarenko shot over the crossbar from inside the penalty area. The visitors responded with an off-target header by Sigeev.
Midway through the first half, “Kudrivka” even seized the initiative for a while. But it didn’t lead to any truly dangerous chances. The “Polissya Wolves” stepped up their pressure before halftime—shots by Fedor and Andrade were blocked by defenders, and Krasnopir missed the target during a one-on-one opportunity.
Early in the second half, Kudrivka’s goalkeeper parried a shot by Emerllah from about ten meters out. And in the 60th minute, the ball even found the back of the visitors’ net. However, Rosales’s own goal was disallowed due to an offside call against one of the Zhytomyr players.
Later, the match was interrupted for a second time by an air raid alert. This time, the pause lasted nearly three hours. The forced break worked in Polissya’s favor. At least the Zhytomyr team quickly took the lead—Haiduchyk stole the ball from the goalkeeper in a straightforward play and sent it into the net.
Rotan’s team continued to press. A series of corner kicks ended without a goal. But later, an attack down the left flank proved successful. Lavuta saved Haiduchyk’s shot from a few meters out, but Andrade was there in time to tap in the rebound and seal the final score.
