Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix to be held at Madrid’s Madring circuit for the first time in 2026
The 2026 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix will take place at the new Madring circuit in Madrid, Spain. The round was moved from Barcelona to the country’s capital, and the contract to host races at the Madrid circuit runs until 2035, ABC News reports.
Madring has 22 turns and combines city roads with private land plots. According to the publication, the circuit’s layout will resemble a street circuit in some sections and a permanent racing track in others.
La Monumental turn
The main feature of Madring will be Turn 12, called La Monumental. It is a long banked hairpin with a 270-degree arc and a maximum track banking angle of up to 13.5 degrees.
For comparison, the banking at the Dutch circuit in Zandvoort reaches 18 degrees. At the same time, Formula 1 cars are expected to take La Monumental at a higher speed.

Williams driver Carlos Sainz previously drove the Madring layout in a Ford Mustang GT. He suggested that Formula 1 cars could take La Monumental flat out, while an overtaking opportunity could emerge before the following tight left-hand turn.
According to Sainz, the banking could allow drivers to choose a higher or lower line to get clean air while pursuing a rival. He also noted that running closer to the inside of the turn could create a slipstream, similarly to Zandvoort.
Race date and standings
The Spanish Grand Prix race is scheduled for Sunday, September 13. Ahead of the round, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers’ standings with 267 points. His teammate George Russell is second with 201 points, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton is third with 191.
Mercedes lead the constructors’ championship with 468 points. Ferrari have 346 points, while McLaren have 287.
