PSG thrash Slovan 6-1, Liverpool defeat Atletico

In Paris, France, reigning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1 in the opening match of the tournament. Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick, while the Parisians began their bid for a third consecutive title in Europe’s premier club competition, Dawn reports.

Luis Enrique’s team were already 2-0 ahead by the 22nd minute thanks to an Ousmane Dembele brace. Torres scored after a Dembele pass shortly after the half-hour mark, then netted his second less than two minutes into the second half. The Spaniard completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute.

Suleiman Camara scored a consolation goal for Slovan, but PSG had the final say as Fabian Ruiz capitalized on an opponent’s poor clearance. The Parisians are seeking to become the fourth club to win the European Champion Clubs’ Cup three times in a row.

Liverpool come from behind against Atletico

Liverpool defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Anfield. The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Julian Alvarez passed to Marcos Llorente, who chipped the ball over goalkeeper Alisson.
