England take the lead in third Test against Pakistan
England, in the United Kingdom, ended the first day of the third Test match against Pakistan at Edgbaston with a lead of 23 runs. Pakistan were bowled out for 133 runs in 33.5 overs, while England had reached 156 for four wickets at the close of play, Dawn reports.

England's most successful bowler was Josh Tongue, who took four wickets for 42 runs. Ollie Robinson finished the innings with figures of 3-15, while Jofra Archer took 3-25.
Pakistan, who were sent in to bat first, lost four wickets for 26 runs during the opening hour. Robinson dismissed Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, while Archer removed Azan Awais and Shan Masood. Ayub's wicket was Robinson's 100th in his Test career; he reached the milestone in his 24th Test match.
Tongue dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who scored seven runs, in his first over. The bowler later also removed Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran. Pakistan's top scorer was Saud Shakeel with 43 runs from 47 balls. The final pair, Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali, added 26 runs, the biggest partnership of Pakistan's innings.

Brook and Gay respond with a century partnership
England also lost early wickets: Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Abbas dismissed Ben Duckett and Jordan Cox respectively. After Joe Root was dismissed, England were 39 for three, but Harry Brook and Emilio Gay rebuilt the team's position with a partnership of more than 100 runs.
Gay scored a Test career-best 60 runs from 114 balls before being dismissed after playing Razaullah's delivery onto his own wicket. Razaullah took Root's wicket with the fourth ball of his debut Test match. At the start of the second day, Brook remained at the crease on 52 runs alongside Dan Lawrence.
Razaullah, wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran made their Pakistan debuts after changes to the team lineup. Seven players were sent home after the defeat in the second Test at Lord's, while coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and his assistant Umar Gul were dismissed.
