Bungie to bring back removed campaigns, locations and raids to Destiny 2 — The Verge
Studio Bungie plans to return previously removed content to Destiny 2, including story campaigns, locations and raids. The decision means abandoning the Destiny Content Vault approach, under which old content that players had previously paid to access was removed from the game six years ago.
As The Verge reports, Bungie acknowledged that the removal of these materials had a long-term impact on players’ trust and their perception of the series. The studio said it cannot change the previous decision but intends to address its consequences by restoring important parts of Destiny’s story.
Content will be available to all players
The restored content will be available to all Destiny 2 players. At the same time, Bungie stressed that this will not be a simple return of old files to the game. Significant technical changes have taken place in the project since the release of the Beyond Light expansion, so developers need to update lighting, combat encounters, enemies and other core systems.
Bungie noted that this work will take time but should ensure that the restored content meets Destiny 2’s current standards for stability and gameplay.

The Sunrise mod and the future of the series
Bungie’s announcement came several weeks after the release of the Sunrise modification for an offline version of Destiny 2. It provides access to some old locations removed from the game, but does not recreate the campaigns and missions in the form in which players previously completed them.
The studio called restoring content the first step toward creating a foundation for new stories and games and said it intends to build a stronger long-term future for Destiny. Bungie did not provide any information about a possible Destiny 3 sequel.
Separately, the company acknowledged that its extraction shooter Marathon did not attract as many players as it had expected. Bungie plans to shift the game’s development more toward survival.
