ChatGPT launches group chats for all users

OpenAI has announced the launch of a group chat feature in ChatGPT, available to all users with Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. The announcement was made on Thursday and comes just a week after the company began piloting the feature in regions such as Japan and New Zealand. Group chats allow users to communicate with each other and ChatGPT in a collaborative conversation, transforming the platform from a tool for individual use to a space for teamwork.

The company sees group chats as an opportunity to organize travel, write documents together, resolve disputes, and conduct research. Up to 20 people can participate in a group chat and must accept the invitation. The privacy of users' personal settings and memory remains protected. Users can easily create a group chat by clicking on the people icon, and ChatGPT is able to adapt to the conversation, knowing when to join in or stay silent.

This move is part of OpenAI's strategy to turn ChatGPT into a social platform. The company believes that over time, ChatGPT will take a more active role in group conversations, helping people plan, create, and take action together. The feature release follows the recent launch of the GPT-5.1 model, which emphasizes the ongoing development of OpenAI's technology.
