DJI unveils Romo 2 robot vacuums with Local Data Mode

DJI has unveiled the second generation of Romo robot vacuums — the Romo 2 series, which includes the transparent P2 and the opaque A2. The models feature updated navigation, the ability to overcome small obstacles, and Local Data Mode, The Verge reports.

Navigation and thresholds

According to DJI, the Romo 2 can avoid cables and other objects as small as 2 mm, as well as recognize transparent objects, including mirrors and glass. The company also says it has features that should allow the robot to take into account previous experience interacting with obstacles and adapt to new objects.

Two legs on the underside of the device allow it to overcome one step up to 4 cm high or two consecutive steps with a total height of approximately up to 8 cm. The robot will not be able to climb regular stairs, but it will be able to cross small dividers and thresholds between rooms.

Power and data

On carpets, the Romo 2's suction power can reach 36,000 Pa. New brushes and floor-washing attachments have an increased reach for cleaning under furniture and near furniture surfaces. DJI also claims that the operating noise of the new series has decreased by 85%.

DJI introduced Local Data Mode amid security concerns surrounding the previous Romo model. According to The Verge, its vulnerabilities could have provided access to thousands of robot vacuums worldwide, including floor plans, cameras, microphones, and remote control of the devices.
