Google rolls out Motion Assist anti-motion sickness feature in Android 17
Google is rolling out the Motion Assist feature in Android 17, designed to reduce motion sickness symptoms while using a smartphone in transport. According to The Verge, citing Android Authority, the feature appears to be arriving gradually, and some Pixel smartphones may receive it first.
How Motion Assist works
The feature uses the smartphone's accelerometer and gyroscope to display moving indicators along the edges of the screen. They synchronize with the car's movement: when turning right, the dots move left across the screen, and when braking, they move forward.
This approach is intended to reduce the discrepancy between the visual perception of a stationary display and signals from the inner ear, which senses the car's acceleration, braking and turns. In principle, Motion Assist is similar to Apple's Motion Cues feature, introduced in 2024.

Settings and availability
Users can change the transparency of the indicators and choose their shapes and colors. Motion Assist can also be configured to turn on automatically after detecting a moving vehicle or activated through the Quick Settings tile.
The feature was not yet available on two Pixel devices tested by the publication. On devices where it has already been rolled out, users are advised to look for Motion Assist in Google settings under the profile and all services sections.
