How artificial intelligence causes ‘brain fry’ among employees across industries

According to a Boston Consulting Group survey of 12,895 full-time U.S. workers, 14% of employees using artificial intelligence tools experience “brain fry” from prolonged interaction with AI systems. The highest incidence was reported among marketing professionals at 26%, followed closely by human resources staff at 23%. This finding is supported by research published in Harvard Business Review highlighting the psychological impact of AI on the workplace.

The survey ranks other sectors with notable brain fatigue, including operations (17.8%), software engineering (17.5%), finance (16.7%), and IT (16%). Lower levels of AI-induced mental fatigue were reported by employees in sales, customer support, product management, and legal/compliance roles, reflecting varying workloads and adaptation levels to AI technologies across industries.

As AI continues to integrate into professional environments, addressing not only technical challenges but also the mental and emotional well-being of employees will be essential to prevent burnout and maintain productivity.
