The Artemis II crew experienced an email outage during their flight to the Moon
During the Artemis II mission, the Orion crew experienced a technical glitch with their email access.
TechCrunch reports this.
On the first day of the flight, mission commander Reid Wiseman was unable to launch either of the two versions of Microsoft Outlook on the onboard laptop.
He also encountered issues with the Optimus software.
The astronaut contacted Mission Control, after which specialists remotely fixed the issue in about an hour.
After that, the email client began working in offline mode.
NASA notes that such programs are a standard part of the auxiliary software, while the spacecraft’s critical systems operate separately and were not affected.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, NASA successfully launched the Artemis II mission, which became the first crewed flight around the Moon in over half a century.
The mission will be a crucial step in the Artemis program, which is preparing humans to return to the lunar surface.
The historic Artemis II mission, which sent humans to the Moon for the first time in over 50 years, has already faced its first challenges. During the flight, the crew experienced a brief “radio silence” as well as everyday difficulties that cannot be resolved with a simple call to a technician.
