Meta has released the weights of the Muse Glimmer AI model for local agents
Meta has unveiled Muse Glimmer—an open-weight AI model designed to run AI agents directly on consumer devices. The model, with 30 billion parameters, can run locally on a Mac or PC with a single consumer-grade graphics processing unit, according to TechCrunch.
Muse Glimmer’s weights are available under the Apache 2.0 license. This allows developers to download the model, modify it, and fine-tune it for their own needs. The company describes Glimmer as an open-source version of its more powerful proprietary model, Muse Spark, which it unveiled in April.
Glimmer is designed for AI agents capable of performing multi-step tasks. Specifically, the model can use tools, write and debug code, work with files and screenshots, and perform tasks as part of a long-running workflow. It supports text and images and, according to Meta, has been trained on more than 100 languages.

Meta is exploring ways to use the model for schedule management, message drafting, and file organization. Such functions require access to a significant amount of personal data, so processing information locally on the user’s device is intended to form the basis for a more private personal agent. The company also states that Glimmer is designed for continuous operation and can function without an internet connection.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a recent letter that the widespread adoption of super-intelligent systems could enhance people’s capabilities. At the same time, Meta distinguishes between models it is prepared to release with open weights and more powerful systems that remain under the company’s control: Muse Spark has closed weights, while Glimmer can be downloaded, fine-tuned, and run on one’s own hardware.
