Microsoft releases out-of-band Windows 11 update to fix bugs — The Verge
Microsoft has begun rolling out an out-of-band update for Windows 11 to address issues that emerged after the September Patch Tuesday update package. That package became the largest in the company’s history by number of fixes: it closed nearly 1,000 vulnerabilities, but also caused disruptions for businesses, developers, and gamers.
What issues the update fixes
The September updates affected shared folders in Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines, Remote Desktop Services sessions, and some USB audio devices. The new out-of-band update resolves these issues in Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2.

As The Verge reports, Microsoft has also released corresponding updates for Windows Server 2025 and 2022, LTSC versions of Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Out-of-band fixes this year
Microsoft previously rarely released such updates outside its regular schedule, but this has happened more often this year. In January, the company released four out-of-band updates after a problematic Windows 11 patch. In March, it issued another two emergency fixes due to failures during update installation and problems signing in to Microsoft accounts. In July, a separate update addressed an Intel driver issue that affected performance and led to faster battery drain.
