OpenAI will provide Japan with a cutting-edge AI model for cybersecurity

OpenAI will grant the Japanese government and select companies access to an artificial intelligence model with advanced cybersecurity capabilities. These tools are designed to help strengthen the protection of digital infrastructure and counter cyber threats at both the government and corporate levels.

Kyodo News reported this.

OpenAI board member Paul Nakasone stated at a briefing that he had discussed AI-enabled cyberattacks with Japanese government officials, and they expressed great interest in the company’s products.

The push to strengthen cybersecurity in Japan comes amid growing concerns about potential AI-powered cyberattacks following the recent release of the Claude Mythos model by the American startup Anthropic. According to experts, Mythos has a high ability to identify software vulnerabilities and could be used to attack financial institutions and other organizations.

As OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon said in an interview with The Asahi Shimbun, the GPT-5.5-Cyber model, which specializes in cybersecurity, has already been provided to government agencies and some companies in the United States.

“We are working to expand access to this technology for Japan and other allies,” he noted.

The latest GPT-5.5-Cyber model was deployed in a “limited preview” format earlier this month with the aim of “securing critical infrastructure to support specialized cybersecurity workflows that help protect the ecosystem as a whole.”

As a reminder, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the development of AI will not lead to mass unemployment but, on the contrary, will contribute to the creation of new jobs
