OpenAI has demonstrated a new level of AI autonomy with GPT 5.5

OpenAI has unveiled its new AI model, GPT 5.5, which no longer simply responds to queries but can independently understand tasks and perform them without detailed instructions. In essence, this marks a step toward a system that is less dependent on the user and functions more as an autonomous tool. The company emphasizes that this is not a cosmetic update, but a change in the logic of interaction with AI, according to Bloomberg.

The new system was presented as a tool designed for complex tasks and minimal human involvement in the control process. The company explains that GPT 5.5 performs better with scientific tasks, programming, and complex multi-step operations where previously each step had to be clearly specified. Now the model can determine the execution logic on its own and adapt to the situation.

It is specifically noted that the new version integrates with everyday tools—email, spreadsheets, calendars, and other services—allowing it to effectively perform actions directly within the user’s digital environment. “It simply figures things out, solves problems, and handles ambiguity,” noted OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, describing the key change in the model’s behavior.

According to the developers, the main idea behind GPT 5.5 is to reduce the need for precise instructions and make interaction with AI more natural, as the system itself “fills in” the logic of the task. This is also part of the competition in the market, where companies are striving to create more autonomous and versatile AI models.

OpenAI has released a new version of its image generator in ChatGPT. This is ChatGPT Images 2.0, which features improved capabilities and support for searching for information on the internet.
