Suno unveils new AI music models in partnership with Warner Music and BMG

In Singapore, startup Suno, which develops tools for creating music using artificial intelligence, unveiled a new line of AI models in partnership with Warner Music Group and BMG. They are intended to allow users to generate new musical compositions inspired by licensed music from participating artists, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Three models for different users

The flagship v6 model and the experimental v6-Wild will be available to subscribers of the Pro and Premier plans. According to Suno, v6 is designed for more precise music creation in line with specific creative tasks, while v6-Wild is intended to help users experiment and search for new ideas.

The free v6-mini model will be available to all users. The company said it is intended to deliver better and faster results than other free models on music creation platforms. Suno previously said that the new models are to replace previous versions and move the platform to the v6 generation.

Music licensing and copyright

The launch comes amid increased scrutiny of AI music generators, including Suno and Udio. Artists have voiced concerns about the use of their works without compensation, while Deezer and Spotify are working to increase transparency around AI-generated tracks.

Last year, Udio settled copyright lawsuits with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Suno also settled Warner Music's lawsuit and entered into licensing agreements. Suno CEO and co-founder Mikey Shulman said the company is developing products with voluntary participation by individual artists, who will be able to receive payment for taking part in them.

In the United States, a monthly Suno Pro subscription costs $8, while Premier costs $24. The company recently raised more than $400 million in investment in a funding round that valued it at $5.4 billion.
