The creator of cURL has criticized the new Mythos AI model for exaggerating its capabilities — The Register
Daniel Stenberg, the founder and lead developer of the cURL project, has cast doubt on the effectiveness of Anthropic’s new AI model, Mythos.

After a detailed analysis of the vulnerability report generated by this system, the programmer called the hype surrounding it mere “marketing hype.”
The testing took place as part of the Project Glasswing initiative with the support of the Linux Foundation.
Although Stenberg expected groundbreaking results, the resulting security report on the cURL codebase turned out to be uninformative and contained a significant number of false conclusions.
The Mythos model identified five supposedly “confirmed vulnerabilities” in the project’s repository.
However, a thorough review by the cURL team revealed that three of them were “false positives”—false triggers that had long been documented in the API documentation.
Another case turned out to be a routine bug that poses no direct threat to system security.
“The only confirmed vulnerability was a low-severity CVE, which will be fixed in the cURL 8.21.0 release at the end of June,” Stenberg summarized in his blog.
Despite general skepticism, the developer acknowledged that Mythos managed to find several minor non-security-related bugs and provided entirely adequate explanations for them.
However, this did not change his opinion regarding the model’s lack of real advantages over its competitors.
Stenberg emphasized that cURL has long been tested by other AI tools, such as AISLE and Zeropath.
