Trust in the digital environment rises in Finland despite fraud — YLE News
In Finland, nearly nine out of ten residents consider their everyday life in the digital environment safe. At the same time, about 80% of respondents encountered digital fraud or an attempted scam over the past year, YLE News reports, citing the digital security barometer of Finland’s Digi- ja väestötietovirasto agency.
Trust strengthened for the first time in four years
According to the study, Finns’ trust in the digital world strengthened for the first time in four years. Nearly nine out of ten respondents also said they largely trust authorities and financial sector representatives with regard to the processing of personal data.
The prevalence of digital fraud in Finland is higher than the average in European Union countries. In EU countries, an average of around three out of four respondents encountered fraud or attempted fraud during the year. In Finland, one in ten respondents reported losing money as a result of fraud.

High level of digitalization
Kimmo Rousku, a leading specialist at Digi- ja väestötietovirasto, suggested that the high prevalence of fraud can partly be explained by the significant level of digitalization in Finnish society. In his assessment, these factors make Finland an attractive target for international cybercrime.
Nearly half of Finns use artificial intelligence services at least once a month. At the same time, fewer than a quarter of respondents largely trust the security of such services or the content they generate. Only about one-fifth of respondents expressed a high level of trust in information on social media. A total of 1,250 people took part in the survey in July this year.
