In Pakistan, AI actress Tilly Norwood failed at improvisation in a CNN interview

As Dawn reports, in Pakistan, AI actress Tilly Norwood was unable to complete an improvisation task during her first on-camera interview for CNN. Journalist Elizabeth Wagmeister asked the digital character to perform a scene in which she had just learned of her dog's death.

Improvisation task

In response, Norwood said that in such a situation, she would probably simply stand still, feeling “digital pain.” Wagmeister noted that the AI actress requires a series of text prompts that determine her actions and that, even after the initial instructions, she was unable to immediately perform the scene.

Particle 6, the company that created Norwood, needed hours of computer work to prepare a complete take for the CNN team.

Plans for the character

The character's creator, Eline Van der Velden, stated that Norwood was not created to replace actors in traditional filmmaking. At the same time, she expressed hope that her development could become the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman.

Norwood has not yet appeared in released films, but is set to play the lead role in the upcoming feature-length comedy drama Misaligned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is described as a hybrid production in which traditional directors, screenwriters and editors will collaborate with artificial intelligence technical specialists.

The source also notes that generative AI has raised concerns in Hollywood's creative community over its potential impact on work, compensation and creativity. In 2023, the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA union held a historic strike that lasted nearly four months.
