On March 26, Ukraine celebrates National Guard Day
Today, March 26, Ukrainians honor the servicemen and women of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU).
This professional holiday was established in 2015 to recognize the special contribution of National Guard soldiers to ensuring national security and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
The history of the modern NGU began in March 2014, when, against the backdrop of Russian aggression, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a decision to revive this formation.
Since then, the National Guard has become an integral part of the Armed Forces, combining the functions of a law enforcement agency with those of highly mobile combat units on the front lines.
The first volunteer battalions of the NGU were formed directly from participants in the Revolution of Dignity, who set out for training as early as March 14, 2014.
Over the course of ten years of war, the National Guard has participated in the fiercest battles—from the liberation of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration and the defense of Sloviansk to the heroic stand at Azovstal.
National Guard units, particularly the legendary Azov Regiment, became the core of Mariupol’s defense, holding the city for 86 days under extremely difficult conditions.
Today, the National Guard of Ukraine comprises seven “Assault Guard” brigades, including “Bureviy,” “Spartan,” and “Khartiya,” which carry out missions in the hottest sectors of the front.

As a reminder, on March 25, Christians celebrate the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary—one of the most important church holidays.
Also, the Resurrection of Christ is a movable feast, the date of which changes every year.
