An agricultural company from the Luhansk region won a lawsuit against Russia for 310 million hryvnias
The Kyiv Commercial Court ruled to recover 309.34 million hryvnias from the Russian Federation in favor of the Ukrainian agricultural company “Krasnyanske,” which suffered as a result of military aggression.
This ruling, issued on June 18, marked an important step in the legal battle to secure compensation for damages caused by the occupation of the Luhansk region.
Prior to the full-scale invasion, the company, based in the village of Novokrasnyanka in the Severodonetsk district, successfully cultivated grain and oilseed crops on an area of more than 3,500 hectares.
The list of crops grown included wheat, barley, corn, sunflowers, and other crops that ensured the farm’s stable operation.
As of early 2022, the value of the agricultural company’s assets—including movable and immovable property—was estimated at 103.97 million hryvnias.
However, due to active hostilities and the subsequent occupation of the region, the company completely lost control of its production facilities.
In March 2022, the company’s management was forced to officially suspend operations due to a direct threat to the lives of its employees.
This forced measure resulted in the loss of access to the property, its de facto expropriation, and the complete cessation of business operations.
To determine the extent of the damages incurred, an independent assessment was conducted by sole proprietor Serhiy Shevka.
According to his findings, the total amount of actual losses incurred by the agricultural company as a result of the destruction of its single property complex is $7.16 million, which, at the current exchange rate, corresponds to 309.34 million hryvnias.
Based on the evidence presented, the court granted the claims and ordered the Russian Federation to pay the specified amount.
The defendants in the case are the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, which act as representatives of the aggressor state.
