At the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków, unknown individuals vandalized the grave of Ukrainian writer, scholar, and professor Bohdan Lepky, stealing a bas-relief from his tombstone.

The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this act of vandalism is viewed as a deliberate provocation aimed at further inflaming hostility between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland.

According to Tykhyi, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Kraków has already contacted the police, the administration of the Rakowicki Cemetery, and the Kraków city authorities. Diplomats have called on them to conduct a thorough investigation, establish all the circumstances of the crime, identify those involved, take immediate measures to return or restore the stolen bas-relief, and ensure adequate security at the burial site. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that the Ukrainian side expects a prompt investigation into all the circumstances of this act of vandalism, the prosecution of those responsible in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Poland, and the implementation of effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent the Order of the White Eagle to Poland via “Nova Poshta.”

The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Polish prime minister.

In response to the Polish president’s actions, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated that he would return his state award to Poland.

Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov reacted to Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He called the Polish leader a liar and a manipulator.

Oleg Tyahnybok, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda,” recalled the events in the village of Sahryn—now a village in the Lublin Voivodeship of Poland—where between 600 and 1,240 Ukrainians were killed and tortured in March 1944.
