Agricultural products accounted for 60% of Ukraine's exports in 2026
In the first half of 2026, agri-food products accounted for 60% of Ukraine’s total exports. This is three percentage points higher than during the same period last year.
Ukrainian agricultural products remain the main source of foreign exchange earnings for the country. Traditional export goods are in the highest demand on global markets and continue to form the backbone of Ukrainian exports.
Total foreign trade turnover in agricultural products for the first six months of the year reached $17.3 billion (+10% compared to last year’s level). Specifically:
Exports rose by 11% to $12.6 billion;
Imports increased by 8% to $4.7 billion;
The agricultural trade surplus expanded to $7.9 billion.
As Pugachev notes, a key trend in the first half of the year was the continued high share of products with higher value added.
Processed food products, flour, malt, starch, as well as dairy and egg products accounted for about 19% of total agricultural exports.
At the same time, researchers point out that imports of agri-food products into Ukraine have continued to grow for the fourth consecutive year.
The Institute of Agricultural Economics emphasizes that the country’s export potential is currently not being fully utilized. The main obstacle remains Russia’s systematic shelling of port infrastructure in the Odesa region, which increases security risks and complicates maritime logistics.
Among the positive factors for the sector, experts cite the launch of a free trade zone with the UAE on July 1, 2026, as well as the expected launch of a similar agreement with Turkey in September following the completion of its ratification.
At the same time, the Institute of Agricultural Economics forecasts that by the end of the year, the agri-food sector will operate under challenging conditions due to ongoing Russian aggression, which will continue to affect the domestic market, logistics, and the export opportunities of Ukrainian producers.
