Anti-drone nets in the Kherson region are scheduled to be completed by mid-2027
In the Kherson region, the installation of an anti-drone defense system is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2027.
This was announced by Olga Malyarchuk, deputy head of the Kherson Regional State Administration.
According to her, 178 km of anti-drone nets have already been installed in the region, of which about 17 km are located directly in Kherson. Work is being carried out primarily on key logistics routes identified in collaboration with the military.
A total of 27 sections spanning 217 km have been identified where protective mesh tunnels are to be installed. At the same time, due to constant attacks and changes in Russian military tactics, these routes are regularly adjusted and reinforced.
UAH 94.2 million has already been allocated from the regional budget for the project. However, the cost of the work has increased: whereas one kilometer previously cost UAH 1–1.2 million, it now costs about UAH 1.8 million due to rising material costs and challenging working conditions.
The Regional State Administration notes that anti-drone nets are a complex engineering system that includes concrete structures, supports, fasteners, and other elements. Different types of nets are used for different conditions; in particular, denser ones are used in cities.
Among the main challenges are a lack of funding, a complex security situation, and a labor shortage. Installation crews work under the threat of attacks, and the structures themselves are often damaged and require repair or replacement.
The project is also subject to audits due to potential procurement irregularities. At the same time, the region plans to continue work and expand the defense system.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that anti-drone nets cannot protect the city from major threats—suicide drones, guided bombs, and ballistic missiles. According to him, they are effective only against certain types of drones and do not solve the problem of massive air attacks.
