Zelenskyy honored the classified developers and operatives of Operation Spiderweb
On June 1, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented state awards to participants in the Security Service of Ukraine’s historic long-range operation, codenamed “Spiderweb.” The names of the awardees are not being disclosed at this time for security reasons, as the details of the destruction of enemy aircraft remain classified.
The head of state announced this in a telegram.
The President emphasized that this meticulously planned SBU operation entered its final stage exactly one year ago, which involved the direct destruction of Russian military equipment. As a result of the successful actions of Ukrainian forces, 41 Russian aircraft were destroyed or at least damaged. The President recalled that on June 1 of last year, Ukraine’s long-range strike capability reached unprecedented levels, delivering a decisive blow to the enemy’s strategic aviation, which terrorizes peaceful cities on a daily basis.
This asymmetric move clearly demonstrated Ukraine’s technological superiority, as never before in history has Russia lost such a large number of expensive aircraft due to attacks by incomparably cheaper kamikaze drones. Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the soldiers for their accuracy and to the SBU for their long-range leadership, noting that Ukraine is defending itself actively and creatively. He also concluded that as long as the Kremlin attempts to drag out and expand the war, Ukrainians will continue to apply long-range strikes daily and destroy the occupiers’ military capabilities.
Exactly one year ago, on June 1, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine carried out the final stage of the large-scale and highly complex special operation “Spiderweb,” which permanently dispelled the myth of the invulnerability of Russian strategic aviation.
