An earthquake was recorded off the coast of Crimea in the Black Sea

On the evening of May 31, an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale occurred in the Black Sea near Crimea. According to experts, the tremors were barely perceptible and pose no danger to residents of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Main Center for Special Control.

On May 31 at 7:08 p.m. Kyiv time, seismic stations recorded underground tremors in the area of the temporarily occupied Crimea. The epicenter was located in the Black Sea, approximately 15 kilometers from the peninsula’s coast, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

On the Richter scale, the magnitude was 3.3—the weakest level, which is usually felt only by a few people in the immediate vicinity of the epicenter.

The Crimean Peninsula is one of the most seismically active regions in Ukraine. According to geophysicists, tremors with intensities of up to 5–6 on the 12-point scale are regularly recorded here. The southwestern part of the country—the Carpathians, Chernivtsi, and Odesa regions—also remains active, with seismic events linked to the proximity to Romania’s Vrancea zone.

Earlier, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Amami Island in Japan.

A powerful earthquake also struck China, prompting the evacuation of thousands of people.

Prior to this, an earthquake was recorded in Ukraine.
