Zelenskyy Reveals the True Purpose Behind the U.S.'s Flirtation with Russia
Any steps by the United States to ease or lift economic sanctions against Russia are an utterly destructive approach that will not yield positive results for the global market, but will only strengthen the aggressor’s military machine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement on his official Telegram channel.
The head of state emphasized that any steps aimed at easing sanctions pressure are, de facto, direct financial and technical support for the occupying forces, as they allow the Russian military-industrial complex to rebuild its capabilities more quickly. The President dispelled myths that concessions in the energy export sector could stabilize global resources. According to him, following the recent easing of certain restrictions, there has been no decrease in global prices for oil, gas, or diesel fuel. Zelenskyy backed this up with a mathematical argument, noting that Russian oil currently accounts for only about 5% of total global supply, so this volume is physically incapable of radically changing global market conditions.
According to the Ukrainian leader, calls to ease sanctions are a veiled attempt by the West to find at least some common ground for building a dialogue with the Kremlin. However, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called such a strategy a profound and dangerous mistake. He emphasized that the current Russian leadership is fundamentally incapable of understanding the language of traditional diplomacy, rational arguments, or political empathy. Moscow traditionally interprets any signs of willingness to compromise solely as a sign of the opponent’s weakness and a signal for further escalation. That is why the head of state called on international partners to demonstrate maximum firmness, remain strong, and continuously increase economic pressure on Russia to compel it to a just peace.
The U.S. Treasury Department has again granted a temporary waiver for transactions involving Russian oil—just two days after the previous period of sanctions relief ended. The decision effectively eases restrictions for the third time, allowing certain transactions during a transitional period. The details and duration of the new waiver have not been specified.
