In Zakarpattia, a child suffered burns over nearly 50% of their body while burning trash

A tragic incident involving a minor occurred in Zakarpattia Oblast, resulting in serious injuries to the child. While burning household trash on the riverbank, an 8-year-old boy found himself in the center of a fire and sustained severe burns.

This was reported by the press service of the Transcarpathian Center for Emergency Medical Care.

An ambulance crew arrived at the scene immediately and diagnosed the injured child with severe second-degree burns. According to experts, the flames affected nearly half of the boy’s body surface. In particular, severe burns were noted on his face (on his cheeks and chin), on both arms (including his hands and forearms), as well as on his lower limbs—his buttocks and both shins were affected. Medical personnel immediately performed a series of emergency stabilization procedures directly at the scene, after which the child was transported by special vehicle to the intensive care unit of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital for further specialized treatment.

Representatives of the emergency medical center issued a stern official warning to the public. They emphasized that this unfortunate incident should serve as a serious lesson for all adults, parents, and guardians. Experts urged that under no circumstances should young children be left unsupervised near open flames, that they be strictly prohibited from starting fires or burning waste on their own, and that regular educational discussions be held with them regarding fire safety rules at home and during leisure activities.

For its part, the State Emergency Service (SES) reminded the public that with the onset of warmer weather, the problem of uncontrolled fires becomes extremely acute. According to rescue workers, the most common causes of large-scale fires and injuries to citizens in Ukraine remain the unauthorized burning of dry vegetation, leaving fires unattended, and a complete disregard for basic safety rules when handling fire.

In Pereyaslav and Mostyshche, Kyiv Oblast, two deaths were recorded as a result of fires caused by the burning of dry vegetation.

In the Kharkiv region, three people died in a fire. Among the victims was a 10-year-old child.
