A militant from the Russian Federation’s “Kaskad” group was sentenced to 12 years in prison for rape

Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General proved in court the guilt of a member of the “Kaskad” operational-combat tactical unit of the so-called “DPR,” which is controlled by the Russian Federation. For violating the laws and customs of war—specifically, the cruel treatment of civilians—the court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

The investigation established that the convicted man participated in a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and in April 2022, his unit occupied the city of Rubizhne in Luhansk Oblast. 

During the occupation, the militant committed sexual violence against a local woman: he took her from a place of unlawful detention, transported her to an apartment in one of the city’s buildings, and, threatening her with a firearm, raped her. The pretrial investigation in this case was conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine. The court’s guilty verdict will become final after the expiration of the period allotted for an appeal.

The Chechelivsky District Court of Dnipro has eased the preventive measure against Metropolitan Arseniy, the deputy abbot of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, who is accused of disseminating information about the locations of Ukrainian military forces and justifying Russian aggression.

The Security Service of Ukraine detained an 18-year-old Kyiv resident suspected of working for Russian intelligence services and coordinating one of the massive attacks on Kyiv on May 24. According to the investigation, after the shelling, he gathered information about the consequences of the strikes and targets near the Ministry of Defense in order to pass it on to the enemy.
