Budanov spoke about Drapato and said that the army trusts him
Kirill Budanov, Head of the Office of the President, commented on the appointment of Mykhailo Drapato as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stating that he is a commander with real combat experience who makes quick decisions and looks out for his troops.
According to Budanov, he has known Drapaty for a long time and considers him a commander who assesses the situation soberly, makes decisions promptly, and enjoys the trust of the military.
“I’ve known Mykhailo Drapaty for a long time. He is a commander with a real sense of combat who soberly assesses the situation, makes decisions quickly, and looks out for his people. The army trusts him, and that is a combat merit. Mykhailo Vasylovych, great tasks lie ahead, and you have everything you need to accomplish them,” Budanov noted.
He also emphasized that the command of the Ukrainian army is “in reliable hands,” and that the new commander-in-chief can count on his full support and assistance. According to Budanov, the main task now remains to maintain maximum focus on the front lines, as the enemy shows no signs of pausing the war.
Separately, Budanov thanked Oleksandr Syrskyi for his years of service as commander-in-chief. He noted Syrskyi’s contribution to the defense of Kyiv, the de-occupation of the Kharkiv region, and other military operations, emphasizing that he had the opportunity to work alongside him during these events.
Budanov announced this on July 22 on his Telegram channel.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi, commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
